Barry Brisk
Beach Cities Symphony Conductor and Music Director

For our 62nd season we welcome Maestro Barry Brisk for his eightieth year as Music Director and Conductor of the Beach Cities Symphony Orchestra, a position of popularity with our musicians.
Mr. Brisk is currently with the Los Angeles City School District, working in five elementary schools in the San Fernando Valley, teaching music. He also plays viola with various groups and has been guest conductor with local orchestras. He began studying viola, piano and tuba as early as nine years of age and now teaches viola and piano. He has a diploma in conducting from the Vienna Academy of Music and has conducted orchestras, ballet and opera, such as the Vienna Symphony, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Academy Ballet Orchestra, Tonkunstler Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Westside Symphony, Topanga Symphony, American Youth Symphony and at the Ojai Music Festival. He has published opera and book reviews, an article for Musical America and has lectured at Loyola Marymount University.
Barry Brisk was assistant conductor under Mehli Mehta for seven years with the American Youth Orchestra and has conducted one of their concerts. His policy of performing new works, such as the Raickovich Symphony has encouraged composers to seek him out and instrumentalists to enjoy these new works. It is with great pride that we welcome Barry Brisk back for another season of fine music.
Maestro Brisk's family has expanded to include their first grandchild, Philip Anderson Brisk, born July 7, 2010.
